About Mr. Mike Vaughn
Thank you for visiting my little piece of Happy Valley's website. I moved to North Carolina in July 2001 from West Virginia. I was actually born in Fayetteville, NC while my dad was in the Army. I taught elementary school in West Virginia for 13 years before moving to Caldwell county, where I accepted the 8th grade math position here at Happy Valley School. I really enjoy the friendly, family atmosphere at our school. I believe there is not a better community anywhere than the Patterson area.

Music: I like just about anything except rap, but my favorite music is Bluegrass. Classic Country and Classic Rock are also favorites.

Paper and pencil will be a daily necessity in my classroom. The most important item a student can bring to any classroom, however, is a good attitude. Without this, it is difficult to achieve success in the classroom. Good attitudes begin at home. Please encourage your children to read every day, make sure they get enough rest, complete any homework they may have, and prepare for tests. Give them love and encouragement and they will excel in life!
A smile can go a long way toward brightening another person's day. Use them often.
Respect is a most important part of everyday life as well. Respect is difficult to give a concise definition. It involves being courteous toward others, considerate of others feelings, never intentionally ridiculing or embarrassing others, and treating others with dignity and civility. A good way to practice respect is to always ask one's self a simple question: "Would I want to be treated this way?" This would often save everyone a lot of problems.
Problems are kept to a minimum in 6th grade simply by everyone coming prepared with supplies, showing respect to others, and having a good attitude. And remember, it takes 42 muscles to frown, and only 17 to smile, so SMILE, it's easier!

The Ten Commandments of Mathematics
