My name is Lucas Schmermund. I am excited and looking forward to the 2023-2024 school year at the Center for New Opportunities. This begins my 17th year in education, all of which have been as a member of the INDIAN NATION! I earned my bachelor of arts from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2006 and, in 2010, earned my master’s degree in administration.
I began teaching in 2007 as the Social Studies teacher at the Center for New Opportunities. I stayed in the position for four years and gained a tremendous amount of knowledge and patience. In 2011, I became the In-School Suspension Director for the district. I remained in that position for two years before becoming the Assistant Principal at Gorenflo Elementary. In 2017, I was named administrator of the year by the Biloxi Bay Chamber of Commerce.
I look forward to working with students, parents, and staff the Center for New Opportunities.
