Mrs. Martin

Greetings parents, students and community partners.

It's my pleasure to be a part of La Sierra High School. I've lived in Riverside most of my life. In fact, the suburb of La Sierra was my home for at least 30 years. I remember when La Sierra had a dairy farm. Residents could get fresh milk delivered to their homes. I am glad to serve the community. Together, let's learn, reach out to each other, and help make the area a family-friendly and business-growth district so we can be proud of our city. At La Sierra High School, our motto is Eagle Pride.

More about me: I studied communications, creative writing, computer applications, business, finance, and business law in college. I worked my way through college and held steady jobs in many different industries. Shortly after college, I joined a large Fortune 500 company in Riverside and worked in the RV industry for 10 years. I was steadily promoted through various departments: advertising, marketing, customer service, sales management, IT, and production forecasting. As a sales forecaster, I could see trends that didn't favor the company, so I decided to follow my three passions: communication, marketing and training. I returned to school to earn a dual credential in English and Business so I can help teach the leaders of tomorrow.

Through my 18 years in education, I have taught computer information systems, accounting, AVID, English 9-12 including honors classes, credit recovery, keyboarding, Virtual Enterprises and International Business.

My passion for business is also shared with my husband. We started a swimming pool service business in 2005. He oversees the day-to-day in-field work and manages phone calls. I handle the back-end business functions and teach during the day. Our daughter, who is a freshman in high school, is a bit of an entrepreneur as well. She loves to sell girl scout cookies.

This year at La Sierra, I am teaching English Honors and Credit Recovery. Students in my classes have desktop computers and state-of-art monitors. I enjoy teaching students in person and like to use technology to make learning more interactive and organized. Most of the work we do in class will be posted to Google Classroom. I make myself available to students during lunch or after school for extra help if needed.

I also serve the student body as Junior class advisor and Fashion Club advisor.

My other hobbies include camping, raising my daughter as a Girl Scout mom, civics, and the under-water world of marine science.
