In 8th Grade Spanish class, students continue to develop proficiency in all four language skills - listening, speaking, reading and writing - with emphasis on the ability to demonstrate comprehension of oral and written language.Trimester 1,2,and 38th grade Spanish begins with a quick review of 6th and 7th grade Spanish. Our first unit, ¨Ï Want It! Can I Afford It?¨ will explore the themes of spending and saving. Students will learn how to talk about the things that they typically spend money on, the difference between wants and needs, free time activities such as going to the movies and shopping. This unit is aligned with the AP theme of contemporary life.
Our second unit, ¨Living as a Foreign Exchange Student¨ will explore the following topics: Cultural differences between life in the USA and life abroad, daily routine and how it may differ while living abroad. We will complete a mini-unit on the Spanish Christmas Lottery, El Gordo. We will read the book ¨Casi se Muere¨, the story of an American teenager living abroad in Chile. This unit is aligned with the AP themes of contemporary life, and families and communities.
Unit 3. ¨No Hay Planeta B¨ will explore the theme of the environmental problems throughout the Spanish speaking world. Students will explore environmental issues such as pollution of the air and water, deforestation, and endangered species and the impact these issues have in countries throughout the Spanish speaking world. During this unit we will read a chapter book in Spanish, ¨Robo en la Noche¨! This unit is aligned with the AP themes of global challenges and contemporary life. Grammar topics covered include:
