    Safety First:

Because science is a very hands-on course, the safety and well-being of students is my primary concern. Proper equipment use and lab safety will be practiced throughout the year. Social distancing, wellness, and health precautions per district guidelines will be taken during the COVID-19 pandemic. Disrespectful, disruptive, or dangerous behavior will not be tolerated.

    Contacting Me:

The best way to reach me is via e-mail (alaw@allendalek8.com). Families, please encourage your son/daughter to contact me directly, to practice advocacy. Do not wait until the last minute to reach out with assignment questions.

    Extra Help:

8th Grade is about learning how to learn, study effectively, and become more independent before high school! Discover your strengths & weaknesses, push yourself to fail and reflect, and advocate when you need clarification and feedback. I will be available before and after school for virtual conferences on Google Meet. Please email to set up an appointment to discuss specific questions and assignments.

    Collaboration:

Group work is emphasized in the 8th grade science curriculum. It is expected to have a positive and respectful attitude during team labs, exercises, and assignments toward both the teacher and your groupmates. Any conflicts during group work should be discussed as a team first, followed by discussing additional options with the teacher. Although a difficult skill to master, students must listen and learn from their teammates and be open to constructive feedback. Growth in collaboration skills will count as a portion of your final grade each trimester.
