My Spanish journey began in fourth grade when my family moved to Cali, Colombia. My mother and I did not speak any Spanish, though my father was fluent. My father was from Chile. I attended Colegio Colombo Britanico, a school modeled on the English curriculum, but allmost all subjects were taught in Spanish. After attending Colombo for 4th, 5th,and 6th grade I returned to Pennsylvania where I finished out the remainder of my education. With an undergraduate degree in economics I went to work in New York City in different financial institutions and I continued my education to obtain a masters in business administration.
After leaving the workforce to raise my two children, and doing substitute teaching, I decided to change careers and become a Spanish teacher. I attended William Paterson University and obtained my B.A. in Spanish. I have continued my education in teaching Spanish as a second language with course work from The College of New Jersey and La Universidad de Salamanca.
I love teaching Spanish! I enjoy learning new aspects of the cultures and countries that speak Spanish. Travel to Spanish speaking destinations is one way I keep my speaking and listening skills polished. Keeping up with my friends in the Spanish speaking world is another way I stay current with my skills. Sharing my passion for the language with my students is both a priviledge and a responsability I take seriously.
