    Reading is purposeful, thoughtful, and requires practice. Readers use a variety of strategies to think about the text before, during, and after reading and then respond to reading through writing and accountable talk.

     

      Writing - Narrative writing

    1. How can I write about an event in my life?

    2. How can I add details to a story to engage my reader?

    3. Why is it important to sequence a story?

    During this unit, students will build their writing stamina and learn how to take a small event in their lives and write a narrative about it. They will learn how to add details and dialogue to a story to make it interesting.

    1. How can I decompose numbers into hundreds, tens, and ones? 

    2. What are different ways I can compare numbers?

    3. How can I write numbers in different ways?

    During this unit, students will review how to compose and decompose numbers to 1 million. They will understand that there are multiple ways to record numbers and that place value is an essential building block to concepts throughout the year.
