St. Helena Unified Physical Safety Steps to Keep Your Child Safe at School

  • Student Safety is our Top Priority

The following are some of the security measures we have implemented in our schools:

    • Doors in classrooms and other areas highly populated by students have been outfitted with special safety equipment
    • School site safety plans are updated annually and reviewed with all staff
    • Professional security assessments have been conducted at each school site.  The results inform the development of our safety plans
    • Each school conducts regular safety drills for students and employees
    • All employees are provided with safety and security training annually
    • The SH Police Department has direct two-way communication with the district during any emergency via a handheld radio
    • The district has a school resource officer (SRO) who works and is present at one of our four school sites daily throughout the school year and will respond to site emergencies
    • All school sites have a dedicated landline with an emergency phone should the internet go down during an emergency
    • The SH Police Department and SH Fire Department have master keys for all of our schools to gain emergency access as needed
    • The SHUSD, SH Police Department, and SH Fire Department have held “Active Shooter” drills within the district to review and refine our practices
