Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Barker
I graduated from Old Dominion University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Western Carolina University with a Master of Arts in Teaching. I have taught third grade, fourth grade, language arts and math in middle school, as well as various levels of special education. My teaching certifications are in the areas of Middle Grades Math and Language Arts, Elementary Education, Special Education, and of course, Art. I also have teaching endorsements in the areas of Gifted, ESOL, Civics, and Reading.
This is my 17th year in education. It is my first year at Vineland Elementary School and fourth year with Charlotte County Public Schools. Prior to moving to Englewood, I lived and worked in Collier County.
My husband, Jeff, and I have been together for four wonderful years. I have two daughters, Ava (7) and Niya (14) and two step-daughters, Riley and Reagan (both 17). We also have a dog named Carbo. My family and I love to spend time in nature, whether it’s at the beach, on a trail, or hunting for fossils in the creeks and rivers.
Art has always been a part of my life and I love to create. I strive to bring out the creativity in all of my students while building their ability to develop resilience, kindness, and respect. I am very excited to work with VES students to create fun, engaging and relevant projects!
My mission is to create an inclusive learning environment where every student feels valued, respected, and inspired. I want my students to leave each day feeling good about who they are and what they can accomplish as an artist and student.
Art is everywhere, and we are all Artists!
