Windsor, Calif. — Walk and Roll to School kicks off tomorrow, Oct. 20, in Windsor with the first bike train and walking school buses of the year.
Students from Brooks Elementary and Windsor Middle School wanting to ride in the bike train are invited to meet at the Town Green and join the bike train that will deliver students to school in a safe, people-powered, and environmentally-friendly way.
Participants can meet at the Rainbow Snoopy on the southeast corner of the Town Green at 7:30 a.m., with the caravan of bikes departing at 7:45 a.m. Though the first ride is Oct. 20, the rest will take place the first Wednesday of the month through the end of the school year. All participants must wear helmets and bikes should be in good working order.
The effort is being spearheaded by Physical Education teacher Laurel Green, and Windsor’s police chief Mike Raasch will be on hand to provide support to the bike train.
The bike train will depart from the Snoopy, and first head to Brooks to “drop off” the third through fifth graders and then head to WMS to finish. The bicycling route from the Town Green will head north on Old Redwood Highway and then take a right on Arata Lane, and then take a right on Camelot Drive, then take a left on Jane Street to Brooks Elementary. From there students can ride the bike path near the church to the middle school.
In addition to the bike train, students are encouraged to organize small walking school buses from their homes, with their friends. Green has offered them banners to walk with from their homes.
