Science

Science is a way of thinking that helps our students make sense of the natural and designed world. A Wayland science education includes studying life science, physical science, earth and space science, and technology/engineering. Scientific processes and skills are essential to both lab and field experiences; they are as important as content in each of the scientific domains. From a young age through high school, with increasing complexity our student scientists:

  • Develop their ability to observe
  • Interpret information and build data literacy skills
  • Use evidence to support claims
  • Understand and use the design process and
  • Grow their enthusiasm and interest in science

K-5 Science

Welcome to elementary science education! In K-5 Science we help students develop the ability to think scientifically. We use the FOSS (Full Option Science System) to engage students with first-hand exploration of phenomena. In our elementary science curriculum, students engage in hands-on activities, experiments, and observations to foster curiosity and critical thinking skills. Through age-appropriate lessons, young learners explore the wonders of the universe, learn about living organisms, understand the properties of matter, and discover the forces that shape our planet. Elementary science education not only imparts foundational knowledge but also nurtures a scientific mindset, encouraging children to ask questions, make predictions, and explore the world around them with a sense of wonder and inquiry.
