Mr. Hunter Birdyshaw

Hunter Birdyshaw has served as Assistant Principal at Vestavia Hills Elementary East since 2024. He holds both a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Montevallo. His career has included various roles, each enriching his passion for educating young students. 

Hunter started his career in Hoover City Schools, where he taught first and second grades at South Shades Crest Elementary. He later served as a math coach at Brock's Gap Intermediate School, developing skills in mentoring and coaching teacher leaders. Prior to arriving in Vestavia Hills, Hunter served as Assistant Principal at Paine Elementary in Trussville. These experiences equipped him with a diverse skill set and a deep understanding of the educational landscape.

As a husband and father of three young children, Hunter recognizes the impact that relationships have on educational success, and his leadership philosophy is grounded in personal connections and collaboration. Hunter firmly believes in the words of Edward Everett Hale: "Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success." He is committed to fostering a supportive and collaborative environment where every student, teacher, and staff member can thrive.
