COVID-19 Fall 2023
As the school year is now in full swing the staff in Toppenish School District continue to make the health, safety, and well-being of our students a priority. We now know that COVID-19 is here to stay for the foreseeable future. I wanted to update you on what measures are currently in place to help reduce the spread of germs. The district will continue to follow the guidelines set by the Department of Health (linked here) surrounding COVID-19.
These guidelines are as follows for students Kinder-12th grade:
- If your child is feeling ill:
- They should stay at home and not attend school.
- Please notify their school of their absence.
- If your child has symptoms such as cough, fever, sore throat, vomiting, or diarrhea:
- They should get tested for COVID-19.
*Note: The district no longer has onsite testing available.
Here is a resource for at home tests:https://
sayyescovidhometest.org/ - If your child has potentially been exposed:
- They should be monitored for symptoms and
- It is recommended that they test 3-5 days after the exposure.
- If your child tests positive:
- They should stay home for at least 5 days.
- They may return if they have not had a fever for 24 hours (without using fever-reducing medication) and their symptoms have improved.
- They should continue to wear a well-fitting mask for an additional 5 days (day 6-10).
Preschool Guidelines:
- If students come to Preschool ill with symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or other symptoms listed in WAC 110-300-0205:
- We are required to send them home.
- They may return if they have not had a fever for 24 hours (without using fever-reducing medication) and their symptoms have improved.
These safety measures will remain in place:
- Encouraging our students to have healthy hygiene behaviors such as frequently washing their hands and covering coughs and sneezes.
- Our custodial staff remain diligent about cleaning and disinfecting high touch surfaces throughout the day.
- Masks continue to be available for students to wear, and
- Our building's ventilation systems have been upgraded.
If these guidelines change the information will be updated.
