COVID Testing
Marin County has compiled an up-to-date listing of COVID-19 testing information and resources in the County, available at https://coronavirus.marinhhs.org/covid-19-testing-information. Included on the webpage is information about new five-day a week community-wide testing via Curative. Demand at many testing sites is high right now, and Marin Public Health is encouraging you to call your doctor or healthcare provider for testing if you have insurance.
Previous update
Dear San Rafael City Schools Elementary School Community,
Thank you for your partnership in preventing the spread of COVID-19 in our community. After schools closed on March 13th, I watched our community work together and adapt to our new normal – face coverings, physical distancing, limited social activity, and virtual school. I am grateful for our partnership with the Marin County Office of Education (MCOE) and San Rafael City Schools (SRCS) for their commitment to creating safer school environments.
Safely reopening schools relies on two primary factors-- high standards for preventing transmission within schools, and low prevalence of COVID-19 within the community. In the California Blueprint for safe reopening, Marin’s position in Tier 2 allows for all Marin schools to reopen to classroom-based learning, based on countywide case rates. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed longstanding social and health disparities among vulnerable populations, and there are important differences in case rates between Marin communities. SRCS serves communities that have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19.
Marin County is seeing a positive downward trend in COVID-19 cases. To support the reopening of elementary schools (TK – 5) for in-person instruction, Marin County Public Health is partnering with SRCS and local healthcare providers for baseline testing for students. This will provide school leadership valuable and timely data to guide their reopening decisions, and will help focus public health strategies to further prevent transmission.
Please see the important information and opportunities for free testing below.
Sincerely,
Matt Willis, MD, MPH
San Rafael City Schools is working with Marin Health and Human Services and local healthcare providers to offer free COVID testing for TK-5 students, families, teachers and staff. Our goal is to test a large, representative sample of our SRCS elementary school community so we can better understand our local data to guide our decisions regarding timing for in-person learning.
We ask that you please consider voluntarily getting your child tested for COVID-19 by Thursday, Oct. 15. Below are many free, confidential options that are available to you and your family. Safety protocols will be followed at each testing site; please wear a face covering.
