History Lessons and Healthy Competition in 8th-Grade
Students in Mrs. Bennett's 8th-grade classes have been working through a unit on Thomas Jefferson's Presidency and the effects of his term. They have learned about Lewis and Clark, Sacagawea, Marbury v. Madison, Judicial review, and the War of 1812.
February can find us all in a motivational slump with the doldrums of winter. In order to motivate the 8th graders, Mrs. Bennett inspired her students with some friendly competition while learning this unit. The class that earned the most Mastery Checks (they have one as a quiz at the end of each lesson to make sure they understand the material) would get to enjoy a snack day and Mrs. Bennett would bring them treats as well. She has been amazed by the sudden burst of motivation! In each class, almost everyone achieved all of their Mastery Checks. Well done!
