Junior High Students Prepare for Health Presentations
The 2nd quarter has passed the halfway point which means it is time for the 8th-grade health project. This project allows the students to teach their peers the different systems of the body. In 8th-grade health class, we cover the Nervous, Endocrine, Skeletal, Muscular, Digestive, Urinary, Circulatory, and Respiratory systems. Each group is assigned 2 or 3 systems and will have the opportunity to create a slideshow to present to the class. This is a nice break from the normal teaching days and allows them to work together to complete the project, while also giving them more time to practice giving a presentation in front of their peers. This project will take them through Thanksgiving break and we will be presenting them the week of December 3rd.
In 7th Grade health/PE, we just introduced the topic of being physically active and incorporated some of the ideas into the PE class as well, such as fitness testing and target heart rate zones. We are just finishing up fitness testing this week. During this testing phase, we had the students complete multiple tests that allow them to evaluate their own physical fitness. These tests were the 15-meter pacer test, a flexibility test, muscular endurance test, as well as a muscular strength test. We have worked on these all year long during warm ups and during the class and are now putting it to the test...LITERALLY! In the Health section, as mentioned before, we recently covered what it means to be physically active and went over fitness testing and also the different components of fitness. We are going to continue to add on to these ideas by talking about nutrition next along with the 6 essential nutrients and the 5 main food groups. Just in time for Thanksgiving!
I hope all of you have a great Thanksgiving break!
