PROGRAM OVERVIEW

At OCPS, our commitment to the development and support of school leaders is unwavering. We strive to cultivate the potential of both new and experienced leaders, ensuring that they continually enhance their capacity to meet the evolving needs of our students. As an integral component of the OCPS Leadership Pipeline, the Aspiring Leaders Academy (ALA) is dedicated to nurturing the leadership skills of instructional personnel within the school context. Through the implementation of coursework and experiential learning, participants embark on a transformative journey, preparing them for entry into the OCPS Administrative Pool and future roles as assistant principals or senior administrators.

PROGRAM PARTICIPATION

Participants in the ALA engage in a comprehensive cohort program designed to deliver high-quality professional learning, authentic leadership experiences, and personalized support in preparation for the assistant principal role. Aligned with and in support of the district's vision, mission, and goals, the ALA ensures that all components adhere to the eight Florida Educational Leadership Standards. As all administrators are recognized as instructional leaders in our district, the ALA focuses on equipping participants with the essential skills to become proficient school-based leaders. Each member actively participates in the assistant principal pool process upon completion of the program, enhancing their readiness for leadership roles.

The ALA is offered annually during the fall of each school year, with application details announced through the Deputy Superintendent's Announcements.

PROGRAM EVALUATION

The evaluation process for the Aspiring Leaders Academy occurs throughout the program and includes reflections and professional learning evaluation surveys. Completion of the ALA culminates in participants actively engaging in the assistant principal pool process. This evaluation step ensures that completers of the program are well-positioned to apply their refined leadership skills and knowledge to real-world administrative challenges.
