Students chalk positive messages on school entrance

Hello, Hola, bonjou, and xin chao are just a few ways students say hello.

In honor of the district’s Start WIth Hello Week Proclamation, Sally Ride Elementary School hosted a Social Hour to build community amongst families and staff. Attendees participated in family building activities such as saying hello in a different language, writing hello and kind messages, and creating an art collage in positive words.

Families had an opportunity to meet with OCPS student and social services team members, and various organizations, such as Easterseals, NAMI, Girl Scouts of America and Community Action Partnership. Jerimiah’s Italian Ice, a partner in education, participated too.

Start With Hello is affiliated with the Sandy Hook Promise that aims to end social isolation and promote inclusivity and personal connections.

“The event was well attended and everyone had a great time,” Jenny Morgan, Sally Ride parent and family engagement liaison, said. “I’m very appreciative of the supportive administrators and school staff who helped make it a success.”
