The School Board of Orange County held its regularly-scheduled board meeting at 5:30 p.m. via a virtual meeting room while live streaming on the district’s YouTube channel. These are the highlights of the meeting:
School Board approved targeted rezoning impacting three schools
School Board approved targeted rezoning options in School Board District 4 impacting the west and southwest areas of Orange County.
- Approval of the rezoning for the targeted area from Chain of Lakes Middle School to Southwest Middle School to include Sand Lake Hills neighborhood with a potential impact of 28 students.
- Approval of the rezoning for the targeted area from Bay Meadows Elementary School to Sand Lake Elementary School with a potential impact of 24 students
- Approval of the rezoning for the targeted area from Whispering Oak Elementary School to Lake Whitney Elementary School to include Wintermere Pointe and Emerald Ridge neighborhoods with a potential impact of 123 students.
The targeted rezonings will commence at the beginning of the 2020-21 school year. This is the map of the areas impacted.
School Board unanimously approved joining the e-cigarettes & vaping products lawsuit
The School Board designates the General Counsel as the legal representative of the School Board in any negotiations to retain outside counsel to represent the School Board in the e-cigarettes and vaping products lawsuit. The General Counsel has the continued duty and obligation to keep the School Board sufficiently informed of any significant developments in the lawsuit, through oral reports, memorandums, or executive sessions, as necessary.
