The School Board of Orange County held its regularly-scheduled board meeting at 5:30 p.m. at the Ronald Blocker Educational Leadership Center. These are the highlights of the meeting:
April is recognized as Autism Awareness Month
Orange County Public Schools serves over 3,200 students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The district has an array of educational supports including physical, occupational, speech, or language therapy and behavioral assistance. These supports ensure that students with ASD receive their education with non-disabled peers in the least restrictive environment most appropriate for their individualized needs. This is the proclamation.
April 12-18 is National Public Safety Telecommunications Week in OCPS
The purpose of the recognition is to urge all citizens to become familiar with the services and benefits of our District Police Communications Center and acknowledge a high-quality group of professionals that have made a difference in creating a positive climate and safe environment. During the 2018-2019 school year, they fielded over 10,000 calls per month and over 120,000 calls for the year related to security and life-safety related systems. This is the proclamation.
April 1 is National Census Day in OCPS
The census is a count of everyone living in the United States and is conducted every 10 years as mandated by the United States Constitution, Article 1, Section 2. The results determine congressional representation and federal funding for states and communities, including Orange County. By April 1, 2020, Orange County households will receive an invitation to participate in the 2020 Census and residents will have three options to respond – online, phone or by mail. OCPS is partnering with the U.S. Census Bureau locally to make sure our families are informed and participate in this critical endeavor. This is the proclamation.
