To promote its specialized learning programs, Orange County Public Schools is hosting a virtual Magnet Fair. All parents and students are invited to learn more about the 41 magnet programs offered in 29 sites across elementary, middle and high schools. These focused programs encourage academic excellence in highly specialized areas of study and often pave a road into post-secondary schools and colleges.
Spotlight programs include:
Edgewater High School’s Center for Future Educators – This program provides students an opportunity to explore various career paths within the field of education. This magnet offers students innovative, real-world internship opportunities to expose them to different classroom environments, ideologies and pedagogies to present a broad perspective on teaching and learning.
Howard Middle School’s Academy of Arts – This nationally, award-winning programing provides a rigorous and integrated academic curriculum with an array of fine arts elective options. These courses range from musical theatre, dance and band to stage design, digital photography and graphic design. The wide variety of performing and visual art classes fulfill student interests and industry growth forecasts. Students share their work through exhibits, performances and competitions.
Orange Center Elementary School’s STEM - This magnet program provides an enhanced curriculum focusing on science, technology, engineering and math knowledge. Students will cultivate their critical thinking and problem-solving skills to be prepared for higher education and 21st Century careers.
See a list of all OCPS magnet programs offered at the elementary, middle and high school level.Students must apply for the magnet program at www.schoolchoice.ocps.net. If there are more applicants than the number of seats available in a specific program, students are selected through a lottery. The application window is Nov. 1, 2023 – Feb. 15, 2024.
Students who currently reside in Orange County and who will be entering a grade from kindergarten through 10th in the 2024-25 school year may apply for a magnet program seat. Students applying for kindergarten programs must be 5 years old before Sept. 1.
The Office of School Choice Services in Orange County Public Schools works to increase awareness among parents and community members about voluntary public school choice options in Florida. School Choice means providing parents the opportunity to be involved in selecting the school their child will attend. It also means providing services and assistance to help children receive the instruction that best meets their needs.
