Carrying colorful buckets, Whispering Oak Elementary School’s 60-member National Elementary Honor Society visited classrooms seeking loose change donations.
Practicing the service pillar of the NEHS, members partnered with Cannonball Kids Cancer, to raise funds for childhood cancer research.
As part of the donation drive, “Filling our Buckets for a Cure,” the NEHS students shared information with classes about the Cannonball Kids Cancer foundation, and learned kindness while helping others “fill their buckets.” They based the theme from the book, “Have you filled a bucket today?” by Carol McCloud.
Cannonball Kids Cancer is a solution-oriented foundation working to fund innovative, accessible research for children fighting cancer to provide better treatments and quality of life, and educate for change. The NEHS knew their support could mean more good days and less toxic treatments for kids fighting cancer.
The NEHS set a goal of raising $2,500.00 for the foundation and were excited that they exceeded that goal and raised $5,941.97.
