Board reviewed Code of Student Conduct policy

The Orange County School Board held a rule development workshop to discuss the proposed revisions to the Code of Student Conduct for the 2021-2022 school year. School Board Policy JIC - Code of Student Conduct was revised to assure compliance with all applicable federal, state laws, Florida State Board of Education Rules, Board policies, administrative rules, procedures and guidelines. Revisions were made to the existing policy language to include content, formatting, and terminology edits that are consistent with statutory language to the extent possible. 

Proposed revisions include:

  • Addition of language to Section III: Student Notifications Consultation with Law Enforcement to comply with SB 590 which modifies Section 1006.07, Florida Statutes.
  • Addition of language to Section III: Student Notifications Petty Acts of Misconduct to comply with SB 590 which modifies Section 1006.07, Florida Statutes.

The presentation to the School Board details the specifics of the policy changes.

Next steps: All proposed changes are scheduled to be voted on at the Aug. 3, 2021 School Board meeting. The amendments would take effect immediately if voted affirmatively on Aug. 3, while the effective date for Policy JIC would be the first day of school, Aug. 10, 2021.
