A team of college students created the MaskON Project, wellness kits for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classrooms at Bonneville, Columbia and East Lake elementary schools.
“We appreciate OCPS graduates thinking of their communities with donations, and it is exciting to see young adults from our local college making a difference,” Matthew Pritts, Columbia ES principal, said. “Their commitment to serving others is contagious and truly appreciated.”
The college students are OCPS grads who wanted to do something to help their community. Each box contains 50 child face masks, 50 adult face masks, disinfecting spray and wipes, large hand sanitizer for all ages, three small hand sanitizers for adult usage, Kleenex, band-aids, an adult reusable mask and a Healthy Habits poster.
“We wanted to be advocates for mask wearing or facial coverings. It’s one of the few things we can do to protect each other,” Jica Garces, President and founder of the MaskON Project, said.
The eight girls collected financial and supply donations to build the kits. They targeted the younger aged classrooms because VPK doesn’t have a distance learning option and they thought kindergarten would be hard for a five year old to do online.
The MaskON Project delivered 16 kits and plans to refill depleted kits throughout the year, as needed. Members include: Jica Garces, Diana Lam, Anya Legaspi, Anh Bui, Nhi Bui , Merna Khalil, Tramy Dinh and Angie Amado.
