As part of our 5th Grade curriculum fifth graders are required to submit a Science Project for Science Night. Please be available to assist students with their project, but know that this is a project that should be mostly of the student's doing. I will be available to help students find science projects that fit their means and interests, additionally I will be available to help them on their projects after school (following holiday break).
In requiring this project we hope to provide students with an understanding of the importance of time management, organization, personal best and follow through. Additionally, we want to give students the chance to practice creating a inquiry based science project, so that when they are faced with similar projects in 6th grade they are prepared. A great Spangler Science video which illustrates the difference between a "cool, explosion, scientific demonstration" and an inquiry based science fair project is attached below. Please check out this link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgiVQ6u-dSg&feature=em-share_video_user) when you have the time.
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
Because this is a large project, the fifth graders and I have set up suggested due dates so that they may follow some appropriate pacing.
