Welcome to Old Mill School!

  • Old Mill School is a wonderful place to learn and grow. All of our staff are highly trained professionals and deeply caring individuals who love what they do. Our parent community is one of the most supportive you will find anywhere and help make our school such an amazing place for children and families.

Since 1921, Old Mill has provided an excellent education for its students and continues to look for new ways to innovate so our children are prepared for the future. In addition to the daily guidance provided by our homeroom teachers, we currently offer music, art, library, physical education, and dance classes. We offer Spanish in Kindergarten and First Grade this year.

Throughout the year, assemblies, guest speakers, field trips, Character Education activities, and other programs take place to further enrich our children’s lives. Mindfulness, poetry, theater lessons, art shows, and various day/evening events (e.g. Lapathon, Art Show, Book Fair, STEAM Night, Spruce it Up, etc.) will be part of this current school year. The district foundation, Kiddo!, and our own Old Mill PTA, make many of these programs possible entirely because of parent donations. Check the district Kiddo! and Old Mill PTA webpages to find out more about these programs and how you can support the children in Mill Valley.

Old Mill is a place where we care about others and our planet. Our students, staff, and parents find opportunities every year to help those in need and improve our local and global community. We have fundraised in the past for the local Marin Food Bank, homeless shelters, connected with other schools, supported families hit by natural disasters. We continue to work with Zero Waste Marin to make our school more sustainable and eco-friendly. This year, with the support of PTA, we have purchased school materials through a local organization, Wisdom Supply Co. We are working towards eliminating the use of plastic markers and other single use items.

Our Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) program is based on striving to embody the Learner Profile. Classroom teachers have also committed this year to integrating mindfulness strategies into their daily schedule to support our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) program, with support from our school counselors.

We encourage you to participate and support our rich educational program. Without parent support, many of these programs would not be possible. Be sure to stay informed by reading weekly classroom newsletters, and subscribing to the school’s Raccoon News and the PTA’s “The Creek.
