Important Information
- Teenagers are more likely to be injured or killed in cars than any other age group.
- Motor Vehicle Accidents are the leading cause of death among teenagers.
- Alabama has particularly high numbers of teen driving deaths.
- Alabama places certain legal restrictions on 16-year-old drivers. These include:
- a curfew between midnight at 6 a.m.
- a limit of 1 passenger who is not a family member.
- a ban on any use of handheld electronic devices such as cell phones
- Having passengers in the car increases the chances a teenage driver will have a motor vehicle accident.
- Both texting AND talking on a cell phone greatly increases the chance of causing a car wreck.
- Alcohol use impairs all drivers and impairs teenage drivers more than adult drivers.
