  • Salvฤ“te omnฤ“s! Micheal Posey, MBJH Latin teacher, is in his fourth year with the Mountain Brook School system.

Posey holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College in Romance Languages: Spanish and French, with equal coursework in Classics: Latin and Ancient Greek; and a Graduate Degree in Spanish Language and Literature from Middlebury College and post-graduate work at other institutions.  He considers himself a lifetime learner!

In Poseyสปs teaching tenure, he has been recognized five times as a National Endowment of the Humanities (NEH) grant recipient.  Posey's most recent NEH summer seminar (2022) focused on a three-week deep-dive into "Timeless Parallels:  Veteran Voices and Classical Literature."  This institute enabled secondary school teachers to develop curricula that draw parallels between the experience of veterans in the modern and ancient worlds, exploring such issues as homecoming and reintegration into civilian life.

Most recently, Posey was selected for the Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms, a program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.  Posey and a US cohort of educators traveled to Finland (2022) to complete their international field experience.  Posey spent 15 days on an intensive program to facilitate sharing best practices between US and Finnish educators.

Professionally, Posey is currently a Writing and Steering Committee member of the National Latin Exam, an Advanced Placement reader (Latin), and also Chair of the National Pegasus Mythology Exam.  Posey also serves on the Alabama World Languages Advisory Committee.

Posey has been a featured presenter at several local, regional, and national professional conferences on utilizing online formative assessments and incorporating current educational technology in the world language classroom.

At MBJH, Posey sponsors the MBJH Scholars' Bowl teams (7-9th grades), the Spelling Bee Coordinator, and the MBJH Youth Legislature sponsor.  He also accompanies the Debate Team at local and regional tournaments.

A crock-pot slow-cooker, neighborhood jogger, and enthusiast of a panoply of world languages and cultures, Posey has traveled extensively in the Americas and Europe and is most passionate about introducing students to meaningful global opportunities and world-connected learning.
