• Begin with the college or university. Every college has different parameters. Visit each college’s website to learn more about their scholarship application process. Consider:

       • What types of aid does the college award?
       • Does the college have a separate application process for scholarships?
       • What is the deadline to apply for scholarships?
       • What GPA or standardized testing will be considered for scholarships?

• Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) through studentaid.gov. This free application will make you eligible for any need-based aid the college awards. Seniors and their parents can complete this form after October 1st of their senior year.

• Complete the CSS Profile, if needed. In addition to the the FAFSA, some private colleges and universities will require the CSS Profile in order to award financial aid.  The CSS Profile can be completed online by visiting CSS Profile - College Board and may be completed any point during a student’s senior year.

• Review the College Advising section of the e-Newsletter (sent to through e-mail) and the MBHS morning broadcast.  It is where the College Advisors will post scholarships information send to the school by local organizations, employers, civic clubs, etc.

• Visit online search engines, like Going Merry or Fast Web, to search for scholarships.

• Be specific and think of what makes you unique.
• Search for scholarships based on what you want to study, activities in which you have participated, family history, anything that makes you stand out from the crowd.
