Hampton Street Library

Welcome to the Hampton Street School Library! Our library is a very fun and exciting place to visit, and I look forward to getting to know you and your child.

Our library is committed to supporting and complementing the curriculum and the classroom teachers. The goal of the library is to foster a love of reading and expose our students to a variety of literature. We offer a broad range of resources, in print and electronically, to meet the needs of our students and faculty, as well as ensure that all students are effective users of information. Our library is a welcoming space where students can learn, create, explore, imagine, and collaborate to help them grow as learners.

Our library operates on a fixed and flexible schedule. Each class will visit the library once a week for forty minutes. Library lessons will focus on story time, basic library and research skills that incorporates our Integrated Curriculum taught in the classroom. In addition to literacy skills, students will use problem-solving skills, such as Design Thinking and Computational thinking, as they learn the basics of coding using a variety of tools like kidOYO, robotics and Osmo learning system.

Students also can visit the library during scheduled times for Interest Based Learning or IBL time. During this time, students can choose to explore Legos, Gears, Magnatiles, KEVA Planks, Osmo Learning System, 3Doodler, OzoBots, Dash and Dot, Coding Mouse, and SnapCircuits. This time is for the students to learn about their interests, hone their skills and evolve as a 21st century learner.

I hope that our library is a fun and welcoming place for your child. I feel that the skills our students acquire will provide them with the building blocks necessary to become independent life-long readers and learners.
