As robots become more and more a part of everyday life, students in Bob Smith’s 10th grade Introduction to Engineering class had the opportunity to spend some time over the last couple of weeks learning about the fundamentals of robotics. Student teams constructed their own robots, then manipulated them to accomplish simple tasks in order to develop a hands on understanding of the basics of robotics. Students’ robots then compete in a game of “clean your room” requiring the robots to remove objects from their portion of the playing field while adding objects to their opponents’. Students say the unit is the most complex and, at the same time, most fun project they have experienced in the Engineering Program at Milpitas High.
Bridget Hall, Lead Home Economics Teacher and Cross Country Coach at MHS was given the CCS Honor Coach Award for cross country at the CCS Championship cross country meet held in Belmont on Saturday. LeighAnn McCready, Teacher Librarian at Milpitas High School, has been named a Good Ideas! Winner by the California School Library Association. She will receive recognition for this award at the CSLA Annual Conference in San Diego in February. Additionally, she will be presenting a session at the conference about the unit of instruction for which she won this award, "Health Unit." This unit is engaging for the students and involves reading across the curriculum as well as the Model School Library Standards.
