The LPS Facilities Department is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and operations of the Town’s four schools: East Street Elementary School, Harris Brook Elementary School, Baird Middle School, and Ludlow High School. In addition, the Department oversees the maintenance and operations of the our Central Office building. The Department is comprised of a Director of Facilities, three facilities specialists. Our maintenance plan includes emergency, deferred, and preventative maintenance efforts; all capital improvements focused on restoring building components and mechanical systems; transportation equipment maintenance, including maintenance, repairs, annual inspections and snow removal.
LPS OPERATIONS
Receiving–accepting and distributing shipments to appropriate staff and/or locations.
Housekeeping – furniture assembly, relocation, and repairs; general maintenance of lighting and plumbing; ensure corridors remain clear per State Fire Codes; integrated pest management, etc.
Snow and Ice Events – ensuring schools are safe following weather events, requiring the staff to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Grounds Management – mowing of lawns, trimming shrubbery, tree maintenance, and general maintenance of grounds;maintaining courtyards and signage;scheduling sprinkler maintenance and turf treatments; and outside painting, etc.
Internal/External Events – Setup and breakdown of events; coordination of custodial services, stage and lighting; scheduling of S2 system for locking/unlocking of doors; and access to control and HVAC systems.
Athletic Fields and Events – Oversee annual preparation of fields for events; setup and breakdown of equipment; scheduling access to control and HVAC systems after hours; and ensuring custodial services and restroom facilities availability.
Custodial Services – ensure daily/nightly cleaning and sanitation of schools by outside custodial service; responding to calls relative to spilled drinks, vomit, graffiti, vandalism, leaking plumbing fixtures, etc. on a daily basis.
Communication Systems –maintains, operates, schedules and manages systems. These systems include fire/burglar alarm notifications; public announcement, intercom, bell, and clock systems; HVAC management systems, and many more.
Inspections – Coordinate regular inspections and address deficiencies as set forth by Massachusetts State Law. These inspections include but are not limited to: backflow prevention devise; emergency generators; boiler and air compressor; science room chemical hoods and emergency eye-wash; fire alarm system; etc.
Organizational Development – related to supporting an effective and efficient Facilities Department and includes: Management Systems, Operational Systems, Resource Management, Corporate Culture, Products and Services and Strategic Development.
