• Lincoln Elementary History

In 1911 a red brick, three story school was completed in Hyrum, Utah.  There were three classes on the first floor and four classes on the second and third floors.  A belfry was on top of the school, it had a bell that rang every morning at 8:30 am and again at 9:00 am when school started.  Everyday first through eighth grade students would line up in front of the school then march to their classrooms as a piano on the third floor was played by two students and another student would beat a triangle.  On February 12, 1912 the school was officially named Lincoln Elementary, after President Abraham Lincoln.

In 1935 the school was organized into five departments: music, library, social studies, art and auditorium.  The students would rotate from one room and teacher to the next for these subjects.  Each class had a primary homeroom where other subjects were taught such as math and reading.

In 1960 the seventh and eighth grades were transferred to Wellsville Junior High so Lincoln became a first through sixth grade school.  In 1967 Paradise School closed and those students were transported to Lincoln which brought the student body to 605.  In 1968 another expansion was completed, it included an open three-classroom space designed to hold 100 students.

The original three-story building was demolished in 1994.  The Cache County School District decided to replace the building because of safety considerations and because it was not wired for new technology.

In 2014 Lincoln received the National Blue Ribbon School award from the U.S. Department of Education.  It honors high-performing schools and schools that are making great strides in closing any achievement gaps among student groups.

Lincoln Elementary School's mission is to prepare our students to function effectively in a global, technological society as competent, productive, caring, and responsible individuals.

Lincoln Elementary has a great heritage of hard-working principals, teachers, and staff who are dedicated to the school and the children they teach.
