2026-2027 SUBSCRIPTION BUSING

Applications for the 2026/2027 Subscription Bus Service are now open. While the Transportation Department strives to accommodate all requests, please note that seat availability is determined by specific routes and is not guaranteed.

Key Dates & Deadlines

  • Application Deadline: July 9, 2026, at 4:00 PM
    The Genesis Parent Portal application and payment in MySchoolBucks must both be complete.
  • Route Notification: August 24, 2026 (Status posted in the Genesis Parent Portal).
  • Late Applications: There will be no waitlist; the portal will reopen for applications on October 1, 2026. 

Service Costs

  • Round-Trip: $920
  • One-Way Pass: $460 (Morning or Afternoon)

Eligibility & Mandated Busing

Subscription busing is for students who do not qualify for mandated (free) transportation. Per state rules, mandated busing is provided for:

  • Grades K-8: Students living more than 2.0 miles from school.
  • Grades 9-12: Students living more than 2.5 miles from school.

How to Apply (if eligible)

  1. Genesis Portal: Log in to the Genesis Parent Portal, navigate to Forms, and select the 2026-27 Subscription Busing Application.
     
  2. Selection: Choose Round Trip, One-Way Morning, or One-Way Afternoon. Click Update Answers to save.
    • Note: You must submit a separate form for each child.
       
  3. Incoming Kindergarteners: Applications for new Kindergarten students will open on June 1. These will be processed alongside older siblings.
     
  4. Payment: Wait 15 minutes after submitting the Genesis form, then log in to MySchoolBucks to pay.
    • Pay via eCheck - there is a one-time annual fee (see MSB flyer)
    • Pay via Credit Card - a service fee is charged with every credit card transaction

Important Policies

  • District Rules: Busing is restricted to designated stops only. All district safety protocols apply.
    Please review pages 8-9 of the LPS Code of Conduct.
  • Free/Reduced Lunch: Families who qualify for the Free/Reduced Lunch program are eligible for discounted busing; however, a busing application must still be submitted in Genesis by July 9.

  • Refund Policy: Refund requests are considered only for verified address changes or upon written notification to the Transportation Department on or before September 15, 2026.

Free Transportation Guidelines

The district provides free transportation for students who live more than 2 miles from school in grades K-8; and more than 2.5 miles from the high school. Subscription busing is available for students who are not eligible for free busing. If you are unsure if you qualify for free transportation, please call the Transportation Department at 973-535-8000, ext. 8013.
