Supplemental Educational Services (SES) for Students in Title I, Part A Schools
Students from low-income families who attend a Title I, Part A school identified in Step 2, 3, or 4, whose parents did not (or could not) select a public school choice option, are eligible for free Supplemental Educational Services (SES). These services are classes or tutoring which occur outside the regular school day with educational providers approved by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI). If the number of eligible students who apply for the SES program exceeds the financial resources available, the lowest achieving students from low-income families will receive SES first.
There are many benefits to your child(ren) receiving free tutoring.
-
He/she receives specific help in reading/English-language arts, mathematic, and or science.
-
The tutoring is provided beyond the regular school day.
-
The tutoring is delivered in a one-to-one setting or in small groups.
-
A student learning plan will address his/her specific academic needs.
-
You, as the parent/guardian, will be consulted in developing your child’s learning plan.
We send out two rounds of applications in the fall applications and select from that application list the 55 students we have funding for to participate in this program. The following list of providers are willing to serve the district. The list identifies the subject area(s) and any special groups of students a provider is approved to serve. This information can also be found on our Web site at www.kibesd.org.
Number of Students Eligible for SES
Since the inception of the consequences of failing to meet the requirements of No Child Left Behind (NCLB) in the 2007-2008 school year in the state of Washington, our school district has had to provide SES funding for students in the 2010-2011 (59 students), 2011-2012 (63 students), and 2014-2015 (55 students) school years.
Providers
The following providers were eligible to provide services to students in our district. Some providers will be housed in our school building while others are located in the Tri-Cities (such as Sylvan Learning Centers) or online. It is the parent’s responsibility to provide transportation to and from these tutoring activities.
The following supplemental service providers will provide services in our district boundaries. If you need help selecting a provider, please call the Elementary office (509-588-2090), Joe Lloyd (509-588-2077), or Adela Rangel (en español 509-588-2025).
