Fall sports letter

  •

    Welcome back families,

We are excited about the upcoming year and more specifically the fall sports season. The middle school offers four sports for student athletes to take part in. The middle school has a cross country program with the high school. In addition, we have football, volleyball and girls soccer.

Registration must be completed for sports on the FinalForms website. There is a link to FinalForms on the district website. Families can also complete registration at https://kionabenton-wa.finalforms.com/

Heading up football this season will once again be Don Zorn. He will be assisted by Doug Gustafson, Arturo Lucatero and Chris Howell. Our football players have a tough schedule this year that should make for a competitive season. Gary Petersen is the new volleyball coach. Gary will bring an excitement to the program in what should be a fantastic season for our Lady Cubs. Noah Peck and Jaime Garcia are once again leading the girls soccer program. We look forward to an exciting season for our Ki-Be girls.

We have adopted a new athletic policy. The athletic policy has an emphasis on accountability with our student athletes. One of the major changes is coaches will be required to have a minimum of two 30-minute study halls before practice each week. This is designed to help address the academic needs of our students.

Another change is student athletes will be required to have a meeting with the coach and athletic director before no longer participating with a team. The point behind this is to emphasize the idea of commitment. Student athletes are expected to honor their commitment of participating. Our emphasis is on teaching our student athletes needed character traits to help them mature as they get older.

There will be a copy of our new athletic policy available for families online at our district and FinalForms websites. I want to say thank you for the commitment you have shown to your kids and our school. If you have any issues or concerns, please feel free to call me at (509) 588-2040 or email me at mkantman@kibesd.org

Let’s make this a great year and sports season,

    Michael Kantman
