Food Service

All families are encouraged to fill out the Online Meal Application Form. Completing this form allows families to qualify for free and reduced meal prices and also allows KSD to potentially become eligible for additional academic resources and funding. Meal payments can be made through the LINQ Connect or cash/checks can be sent in; these payments can be made anytime.

Please be advised that KSD was compelled to raise lunch and breakfast prices by 10 cents for the 2024-2025 school year. The price for extra milk remains unchanged at 50 cents.

Parents and guardians may order birthday cookies or cinnamon rolls from SFE for class parties. These snacks conform to all school food service laws, regulations and policies. Please complete the form linked below and return it with payment to the school secretary at least five days before the class party.

Smart Snack Standards

Snacks provided for the classroom must meet Smart Snack Standards and MUST be approved by the building nurse. Individual snacks must always be peanut and tree nut-free, including coconut. In addition, the product cannot be manufactured or processed in a facility that manufactures or processes nut products due to the risk of cross-contamination.

SFE is passionate about enhancing the quality of life of your student population by providing a variety of fresh and nutritious menu selections, interactive educational food programs, and unparalleled customer service.

KSD participates in the School Breakfast Program and the National School Lunch Program through the U.S. Department of Agriculture. SFE offers several hot entrée selections and side dishes daily from our Culinary Creations. Our Executive Chefs are already hard at work creating nutritious, made-from-scratch recipes to add to your schools’ menus. Here are just some of the new items you will see at your cafeterias beginning this school year:

• Luigi’s Eatery - Serving all your favorite Italian cuisine creations! Freshly made Specialty Pizzas, Calzones, Lasagna, and Fettuccini Alfredo.
• Red Dragon - Traditional Pacific Rim and Asian Cuisine consisting of Teriyaki Chicken Stir Fry, Sweet and Sour Pork, Chow Mein, and Beef and Broccoli.
• Traditional Cuisine - Homemade specialties such as Chicken Pot Pie, Meatloaf and Mashed Potatoes, Turkey and Dressing and Baked Chicken.
• Taco Street - Hispanic and Native American Dishes! Taco salads, Beef and Chicken tacos, and made-to-order burritos and enchiladas.
• Gourmet Greens - Fresh Salads! Freshly prepared Sizzling Salads, Southwest Chicken Salad, Cobb Salad, Mediterranean Salad and Fresh Fruit and Vegetable bar.
• Delicatessen - sandwiches on freshly baked breads and wraps.

We are committed to the nutritional well-being of every student and staff member in the KSD community. Students who receive a school meal are also welcome to help themselves to our fresh fruit and vegetable bar each day at no additional cost. As part of our commitment to your school, you will not only have healthy new menu items such as those listed above, but will also have additional made-from-scratch meals, and outdoor grills. Additionally, we will offer fun programs such as the Roving Chef Program, where nutrition education meets hands-on culinary training.

Procedures for Receiving & Processing Complaints  

The following guidelines are to be followed should anyone come forward with a discrimination complaint within the Kearney School District Child Nutrition Programs: 

 1) If Kearney School District or any contracted company of the school district either verbally or in person receives a complaint, the staff member must transcribe the allegation.  All complaints will be directed to District Compliance Officer, Zach McMains, located at 425 W. Washington, Kearney, MO 64060.

The below are the steps to follow if this occurs.  

a)  School District will inform individual of Federal Civil Rights rules and regulations that have been established for protected classes. (A protected class is any person or group of people who are protected from discrimination based on):  

• Race  
• Color  
• National Origin  
• Age
• Sex
• Disability  

b)  School District will provide complainant the necessary information to file a complaint, which is:

c) If needed, the District will provide the complainant information surrounding protected classes and the sponsor should provide the complainant the federal complaint information.

• If the complainant refuses to discuss the matter any further with the sponsor  Kearney School District will: 
• reiterate the complaint filing procedures  
• Document the complaint and actions taken
• Notify the State agency of the discussion

d) The below information should be documented as much as possible in their Civil Rights complaint log including, but not limited to, the following:  

•  Date Complaint Received  
•  Complainant’s Name  
•  Complainant’s Address  
•  Complainant’s Telephone Number  
•  Complainant’s Email Address  
•  Allegation of Discrimination/Issue (i.e. FNS program involved, protected class(es) involved, etc.)  
•  Date of Alleged Discriminatory Action  

e) District will forward the information, within 5 days of receipt of complaint from complainant, to the State agency 

f) State Agency level must forward complaint information, within 5 days of receipt of complaint from sponsor, to the FNS regional office.  

g) FNS team conducts complaint review and investigation, which includes contact with the complainant, State agency, sponsor, etc.
