Web LinkBrother Box is a non-profit organization that creates supplemental education programs to help Black boys feel seen, heard, and supported during the critical stages of their journeys to adulthood, motivating them to see the best in themselves and strive for a future they can be proud of. In doing so, we help them gain a greater sense of self and the values they care about — critical factors for completing their education, bringing their dreams to life, and positively impacting their communities.
This year, Brother Box is excited to award four, $2,500 one-time college scholarships to young Black men graduating in the state of Alabama. Applications are now open and can be accessed at brotherbox.org/scholarships. There, students will find the eligibility requirements and more information. Applications are due by April 8th.
DERRICK MORRIS MEMORIAL CASH SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship has been established to honor the memory of Derrick Morris’ dedication to
education, continual service to his students and his strength of character. The scholarship
hopes to reward and celebrate students from Geneva County and Houston County Schools who
exhibit extraordinary character, service, and leadership during their academic career.
The Derrick Morris Memorial Scholarship is $500 and is available to graduating seniors in
Geneva County and Houston County Schools who are planning to attend an accredited two or
four year College or University, Technical or Trade School.
Scholarship Requirements:
• Open to all graduating seniors in Geneva County and Houston County Schools who are
planning to enroll in an accredited two or four year College or University, Technical or
Trade School within 12 months of graduating high school.
• Applicant must have a 3.0 GPA.
Application Requirements:
• Attempts to submit incomplete or inaccurate response will result in permanent
disqualification from the scholarship contest.
• One entry allowed per person.
• Applicant must submit a 250-word essay describing an educator or coach that has
changed their life and helped them succeed.
• An official copy of the student’s transcript showing the GPA.
• All application packets (including essay and official transcript) must be submitted by
April 2, 2022 to Covington County School Attn: Chris Thomasson 807 C.C. Baker Ave.,
Andalusia, AL 36421.

Various scholarships are available for students that have a parent or guardian that have worked in public school transportation for the last three years.
Please see the attachments. The Alabama School Transportation Association (ASTA) is offering four scholarships for this year’s high school seniors. The criteria and details are in each attachment. These announcements will be sent to superintendents across the state next week.
All applications should be turned in to Mrs. Turvin in the guidance office.

Cody Hayes Scholarship
