Classroom Information: 2022-2023
Contacting Me: If you need to contact me please send me an email at : whitney.clemons@hartselletigers.org I check my email each morning and afternoon. Please call the office for all emergency situations (256-773-2411). The Remind app will be used to send information about important dates. If you need to meet with me, I am available during my planning time from 11:40-12:20, Monday-Friday. If this time is not convenient for you, we will make other arrangements to talk or meet.
Reading/Phonics: Your child will begin to read this year. Sight words and letter/sound pages will be sent home to help your child practice. Learning sight words in Kindergarten will ensure a successful foundation for First Grade. Please read with your child each night.
Writing: We will work on forming all lowercase and capital letters correctly. We will also practice writing in complete sentences. Invented spelling is encouraged at this age.
Math: Counting to 100 by 1’s and 10’s is a skill your child will learn this year. Students will also be expected to identify numbers 0-20, count sets of objects up to 20, understand greater than and less than, manipulate numbers to add and subtract within 10, and he/she will be able to identify 2D and 3D shapes.
Homework: Your child will have a weekly letter/word recognition practice page and a bi-weekly homework packet. I also encourage you to read with your child each night and practice sight words.
Behavior: Daily behavior will be recorded on a calendar. This calendar is to be kept in the back of the Tiger Binder. Students will receive a stamp (the color of the stamp is nothing to worry about) to add to their calendar if they have had a good day. If a parent needs to know about behavior, I will write you a note, call, or email. Please check the behavior calendar daily.
Recess: Each day we will have an indoor or outdoor recess.
Snack: Please send a nutritious snack with your child daily! If your child needs to purchase a snack, they must do so before the bell rings at 7:45 am.
Birthdays: I love to celebrate birthdays. Please let me know ahead of time if you plan to send a birthday snack or goodies with your child.
Water Bottles: Students will have access to our school’s water bottle filling station. Please send your child a labeled water bottle to school each day. Only water is allowed.
Money: My School Bucks is a new way to pay with debit or credit card. You must pay for binders and other school fees this way. Go to myschoolbucks.com to sign up or download the app (at www.hartselletigers.org and click on Pay Fees Online). You may also send lunch money in the “Money & Important Notes” pocket in their Tiger Binder or pay on My School Bucks. All money must be in a labeled envelope or Ziplock bag with your child’s name, teacher’s name, and purpose. Write separate checks for separate items, as they are all put into different accounts. When paying by check, your phone number must be printed or written on the check.
Breakfast: Money for breakfast comes out of your child’s account in the same way lunch does.
Lunch: Our class eats lunch from 10:35-11:05. If your child is bringing lunch from home, please make sure they can open everything independently. If you check your child in after 11:05, please make sure they have eaten lunch.
Restroom: Students will be given the opportunity to use the restroom several times throughout the day. If your child has an emergency situation and needs to use the restroom frequently, please let me know.
Change of Clothes: Please send a change of clothes with your child in a large Ziplock bag. I will store these in their locker. Make sure to include the following: shirt, pants, underwear, and socks.
Arrival and Departure: The bell rings for school at 7:45 a.m. Students who arrive before 7:30 a.m. must go to the gym and wait. School dismisses at 2:45 p.m. At this time, bus riders will be taken to their bus. Car Line-Please stay in your car in the car line with your PINK car tag visible if you are picking up a car rider. For safety reasons, please do not get out of your car and walk across to get your child. If your child is changing transportation, they must have a written note, or a call to the office.Tiger Binder: Your child’s TIGER Binder will be coming home in his/her backpack each day. It is extremely important for you to check these on a daily basis, as this is how we will send home all important handouts, forms, written notes, daily work, homework, etc. Likewise, anything that needs to be turned in from home (parent notes, doctors’ excuses, etc.) should be placed in your child’s TIGER Binder in the appropriately labeled pocket so it can be collected first thing in the morning by your child’s teacher. In the back pocket of the TIGER Binder, you will find your child’s behavior calendar. We will learn and practice all the rules and expectations of the classroom and school during the first few weeks. We will begin incorporating our Behavior Management plan the second week. All notes about your child’s behavior will be indicated each day on the calendar, so it is important that you are checking these to help make our classroom behavior management plan the most effective it can be. Please remember to check all pockets of the TIGER Binder on a daily basis, and to also look over and initial the behavior calendar nightly.
I am looking forward to a wonderful year! Thank you so much for all your help and support this school year! Please know that I am here to help your child have a successful Kindergarten year. If you need anything, never hesitate to email me, call the school, or send me a message on Remind.
Working together,
Whitney Clemons
