    Course Syllabus

Welcome to Biology/IPC!  I am excited to have the privilege of educating, and getting to know each one of you this year!  We will be discovering new scientific concepts through a multitude of hands-on investigations in both class and laboratory settings!  While we will be preparing for the end of course exam, the ultimate goal of high school biology is to prepare each one of you for the college science classroom, or to enter the workforce as responsible, employable adults.  We will be working very hard this year and having fun along the way!

    Required Supplies (DAILY):

You will be required to bring a composition book [(no spirals)-At least 100 page, college ruled] and your chromebook to class every day.  You must have a pen AND pencil every day.  Additional supplies will be necessary, but may be housed in the classroom.  These include:

                -liquid glue

                -student scissors

                -map pencils

                -markers

Cell phones/Backpacks:  Students must place backpacks in their lockers.  Backpacks are not allowed in classrooms.  Cell phones/air pods must be placed at the charging station, or in the phone organizer in the classroom.  Phones/backpacks/air pods are NOT allowed at the student’s desk.  If a phone is found at a student’s desk, the device will be confiscated and given to the office. The issue will then be between the student and administrators.  There may be days where students are allowed to listen to music while working on vocab, etc., but the student will need wired earbuds that will connect to their chromebook, and music must be accessed from their school-issued computer.

    Interactive Notebook:

Each student will keep an interactive Biology notebook that will count as a test grade each six weeks. Students will be able to bring their notebooks home at various times to study for tests or complete projects.  However, if the notebook is lost, the student must replace the notebook as soon as possible, with all applicable materials correctly added.  Students may not work on replacing a notebook during class, it must be completed before or after school.

Tardy:  When the tardy bell rings, my classroom door will shut and be locked. Any entry into the room after this will be considered a tardy unless you have a pass from an administrator or other teacher.

    Grading Policy:

I will strictly adhere to the Hardin ISD Grading Policies.  DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE 6TH WEEK OF THE 6 WEEKS TO TRY TO PASS. Failure to complete an assignment as outlined in the rubric/instructions will result in a zero.  Daily work is never allowed to be corrected/retaken.  Make sure you turn in your best work on the first attempt!

    Testing Policy

Some tests and/or assignments may be curved at my discretion, but all students will receive an equal point value added to their original score.  If you do not pass the test, you must stay after during tutorials to retest.  The highest grade that can be obtained is a 70 according to Hardin ISD grading policy. You must submit a Request For Test Correction form to me within two class days from the date of grade posting. It is your responsibility to check Skyward and request the test corrections within the two day period. After the two-day waiting period, you will not be allowed to retake the test.

Extra Credit:  I typically assign one extra credit project per six week period.  No additional extra credit will be offered.

    Absences:

It is the student's responsibility to check Google Classroom for any missed notes/activities.  All work will be uploaded to their class period and must be completed on their own time when they return.  I will strictly adhere to the Hardin ISD absence policy regarding make-up work.

    Restroom:

Students are required to attend to any restroom needs that may arise between classes.  If there is a medical condition that makes it necessary for you to leave my classroom, please see me immediately so that we may discuss and plan for your needs. Students will receive 3 tardy passes for all classes each six weeks.  If a student is out of passes, they will be marked tardy for leaving the classroom for any reason.

    Academic Dishonesty & Cheating

All students shall adhere to the Academic Honesty Policy, created by a committee of parents, teachers and administrators. Hardin HS is dedicated to promoting a learning environment based on the foundation of personal integrity. We are also committed to ensuring that our students do not demean their character, damage their credibility, or jeopardize their futures by engaging in any form of academic dishonesty. Note, violations of the Academic Honesty Policy may impact the student’s conduct grade, and participation in some extracurricular activities and organizations may be affected. In addition, participation in leadership organizations or positions may also be affected.
