The Music Code of Conduct values the student as a person and provides an incentive for the student to develop as a whole healthy person. The best performance of the individual comes through effort and self-discipline. The Music Code of Conduct provides a means for regulation, enforcement, and intervention of the GHS Drug and Alcohol Policy. This code offers a positive intervention to deal with the substance issue but does not affect involvement in the music class or class performance unless the problem becomes severe.
The Music Code of Conduct is to be followed by all participants for the full calendar year.
  1. No smoking of, possession of, or use of tobacco in any way at any time. This includes e-cigarettes and vaping.
  2. No use of illegal drugs at any time.
  3. No drinking of alcoholic beverages at any time.
  4. No attendance at parties or gatherings where alcohol or drugs are being used. If this situation arises unexpectedly, the student should leave immediately. Students should be accompanied by adults at adult functions where alcohol is being served.
  5. Students convicted of a felony will forfeit participation. Students involved in a misdemeanor will be referred to step one of the consequences.
  6. Poor citizenship including acts of vandalism, improper behavior while representing the school, disrespect of others, and theft of school property are considered code violations. Depending on the situation, the student will face the appropriate level of consequences.
Consequence Levels:  The purpose of the consequences is to encourage our students toward responsible and healthy behavior.  In most cases, but not in all cases, the student will enter level one on the first offense. The music directors reserve the right to determine the level of placement for the offense, and may require additional consequences depending on the situation. The following consequences are in addition to any prescribed steps according to the Goshen Community Schools Drug Testing Policy should the student have a positive result to any of the tested substances.
