Proposed Territory Transfer
-
In order to preserve the integrity of our strong schools, academic program, and financial stability, GUSD opposes a request to move more than 350 of our students from GUSD to La Cañada USD. We value every GUSD student and family regardless of their place of residency. GUSD Board, administration, teachers, and classified staff are committed to providing a high quality educational program to every student in a caring environment. On October 2, 2019, the LA County Committee voted to approve the Territory Transfer. This decision is only one step in a very long process. Glendale Unified has 30 days to decide if we want to appeal the County Committee’s decision to the California Department of Education. Over the coming weeks, the Glendale Unified Board of Education will consider all options and make a decision that is in the best interest of our students.
Ultimately, the territory transfer must be approved by a community vote in order to be finalized. The LA County Committee will determine which members of the Glendale and La Cañada communities will be eligible to vote on the territory transfer at a later date.GUSD Board of Education Resolution No. 21 - April 2, 2019 Board of Education MeetingReaffirming Opposition to the Proposed Transfer of Territory to the La Cañada Unified School DistrictLatest News and Events- October 2, 2019 - LA County Commitee meeting - final vote on the Sagebrush territory transfer (meeting flyer) | LA County Committee votes to approve transfer
