  • What is Oratorical?

     

    Oratorical is the longest running annual tradition at Glendale High School. This tradition began during the time forensics (the art or study of formal debate) was popular throughout Southern California. The first Oratorical was held on April 28, 1910 at the Harvard Street school site, which is now the location of the Glendale Public Library. Originally, each class decorated booths carrying out the theme of their speech. In 1923, tableau became part of the competition. Oratorical's four areas of class competitions: an original speech; a tableau carrying out the theme of the speech; the discipline of the Class while participating; and class spirit which includes two cheers and the song, "Glendale Boys."
