Positive Reinforcement

  • Verdugo Woodlands is a PBIS school with an emphasis of positive behavior interventions and supports. Students receive HOWL Slips for being "caught" for demonstrating behavioral expectations within the H.O.W.L.S. H- Have Respect for Everyone; O - Own My Actions; W - Work and Play Safely; L - Learn with Intention; S - Show Kindness. Students turn in their HOWL Slips for a chance to win a prize in a daily drawing. Grade levels and individual teachers establish  classroom systems to reward positive behaviors. In addition, each month one to three students are selected by their teachers to be featured as Students of the Month based on the GUSD Character and Ethics monthly themes.  Students of the Month are recognized at monthly Flag Ceremonies and given certificates that are signed by the teacher and principal.
