I Miss You
Hey everyone, I miss seeing your smiles and hearing your laughter... I hope everyone is healthy and taking care of their families.
This week students are able to pick up materials/Chromebooks from school based on the schedule sent to your homes. If you were absent the last day before break you missed the distribution of the novel, The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien. I tried to give copies to friends who would make sure you received the book, but if you missed it, I placed several copies in my mailbox for absent students to pick up. I already anticipated the closures. If you do not feel safe coming to school, there is probably an online version of the novel that you could work from. The only other materials you will need is our new SpringBoard anthology--that can be found on an e-book (online). I will let you know more at a later date when we read Thoreau and Emerson.
If you were absent from AP class before break you may write the essay and send it to me via email (take a picture) and if you missed your TED Talk in American Literature, you may record a video of your speech. I will make sure everyone is taken care of.
I look forward to seeing you soon online. I am watching webinars this week and preparing lessons for remote learning. I have created a Google Classroom for us. I will let you know more about this next week for our enrichment/trial run week.
Take care and stay home (like the second piggy to the right of the big toe)!!!

Spring Break Homework
Hi, all,
Just wanted to clarify the homework for Spring Break. All students are to read and research the speech "The Declaration of Conscience" which you detached from your SpringBoard books last week with the sub. If you did not take this document from your book, the speech can be found through www.clever.com (SpringBoard e-book), or you can simply find online and print for yourself. Some students may already be familiar with this speech, as I had no idea it would be in our new books this year; it was used for an AP Practice essay last year in 10th grade.
All students will take the end-of-the-unit (Unit 2) SpringBoard assessment when we return from break. The unit focuses on The Crucible, the Red Scare, and great American speeches. There is no way to study really (because of the standardized format) but if you wanted to look at Unit 2 online you may do so through www.clever.com--e-book. The assessment will have passages that you have to read and answer questions on.
No reading assigned yet in The Things They Carried. I passed it out to be ready in case we have an extended spring break and switch to an alternative classroom.
Have a wonderful spring break everyone. Stay safe and stay healthy.
