Course and Classroom Information

  • 6th Grade Math

In this course, students will be exposed to the 6th Grade Common Core State Standards for Mathematics, which focuses on four critical areas: (1) connecting ratio and rate to whole number multiplication and division and using concepts of ratio and rate to solve problems; (2) completing understanding of division of fractions and extending the notion of number to the system of rational numbers, which includes negative numbers; (3) writing, interpreting, and using expressions and equations; and (4) developing understanding of statistical thinking.

For the 2022-2023 school year, Savvas enVision will be used as the math curriculum for this course.  Students will have access to printed and digital versions of the workbooks.  In addition, we will be using Khan Academy, a free online instruction program used in elementary and secondary schools in GUSD.  Students will also use Prodigy Math and XtraMath to help attain or solidify their fluency from previous grade-level topics.

    7th Grade Accelerated Math

In this accelerated course, students will be exposed to 7th Grade and approximately 50% of 8th Grade Common Core State Standards for Mathematics, which includes the following math topics:

    1. Operations with negative numbers, decimals, and fractions.
    2. Developing an understanding of real numbers. *
    3. Analyzing and using proportional relationships.
    4. Analyzing and solving percent problems.
    5. Generating equivalent algebraic expressions.
    6. Solving algebraic problems using equations and inequalities.
    7. Analyzing and solving linear equations, including slope. *
    8. Use sampling to draw inferences about populations.
    9. Introduction to probability.
    10. Solving problems involving geometry.
    11. Understanding congruence and similarity in geometry. *
    12. Solving problems involving volume of cones, spheres, cylinders, and composite figures. *
    13. Understanding and applying the Pythagorean Theorem. *

*Classified as an 8th grade Common Core math topic.
