Gilboa FCCLA Attends New York State FCCLA Conference
Eight Gilboa FCCLA members, along with adviser Ms. Fleischman and chaperone Mrs. Ross attended the annual New York State FCCLA Conference from March 20-22. Over 200 students from across the state were in attendance, and over 90 participated in competitive events. Students attended workshops on professionalism and skills, including public speaking, edible flower making, and parliamentary procedure. Abigail Woodcock competed in the New York State skills event of Thematic Table Setting. She chose to create a table setting for an Easter Brunch when choosing a seasonal celebration and earned a gold medal. Jaidyn Sutton competed in the National FCCLA event of Career Investigation, in which she researched the career of orthodontics and dentistry. She also received a gold medal and will represent New York State at the FCCLA National Convention in Seattle, WA this summer! Both Abby and Jaidyn finished their year as Junior Leaders, along with 10 other FCCLA members from other schools, under the leadership of former NYS officer and Gilboa alumnus Alexa Dumas. Olivia Ross completed her year of training as an officer-elect, and was installed as the President of the 2024-2025 New York State FCCLA Executive Council. She and her 3 council members Leon Hong (Catskill High School), Brinley Wager (Delaware Academy), and Delaney McCann (Delaware Academy) will be working hard this year while at the National Leadership Conference in Seattle to plan the 2024 Summer Leadership Conference at SUNY Oneonta and the 2025 NYS FCCLA Conference next March at the Villa Roma. Olivia was also recognized for her completion of the National Program Power of One, and the Gilboa FCCLA chapter was recognized for completion of the Community Service program.
