Huff Won Safe Space Sticker Contest

Thanks to the work of Galway High School Senior Roman Huff, students K-12 will have a faster, easier way to get into their safe zones during lockdown drills.

Roman designed the winning sticker that will be put in all the classrooms at Galway Central School District to designate where the students should gather so as not to be visible from the outside.

Galway’s School Resource Officer, Deputy Mike Bedell, worked with Art Teacher Mrs. Maureen Mierzwa to implement the contest.

“It was a graded assignment for students in the Illustrator class, and they all did a great job,” said Mrs. Mierzwa.  “Students were challenged to incorporate Galway’s logo and colors, along with the Saratoga County Sheriff’s star and text.”

When Deputy Bedell goes into the classrooms to interact with students, he has the children go into their safe spaces quietly and then makes sure they can’t be seen from the outside.

“The sticker contest was a fun way to get students involved in the culture of safety here at school,” said Deputy Bedell.
