DLI (Delaware Literary Institute) was founded in 1835 as a private school located on the school's present site. In 1930, DLI became a central school district known as Delaware Literary Institute and Franklin Central School. In 1983, Franklin was placed on the register of National Historic Places. Each year Franklin celebrates Old Franklin Day in August to help maintain the original Stone Hall. A festival with something for everyone, it features a flea market, craft show, fashion show, special music and other events throughout the day.
The Franklin Recreation Commission sponsors many athletic events throughout the year including the summer baseball and swimming programs. Other local organizations offer students the opportunity to explore community volunteering, cultural and social pursuits.
