What We Do

The Framingham Teacher Residency is an alternative pathway for those looking to begin their career in teaching. The residency model blends a rigorous full-year classroom internship with academic coursework that is closely aligned with classroom experiences, supervised by a highly trained, supported mentor teacher. The residents will not only receive a living stipend but also may have their tuition expenses waived if the residents commit to teaching in the Framingham Public Schools for a minimum of three years.

The mission of Framingham Teacher Residency is to prepare teacher-residents to use Culturally Responsive Teaching techniques to inspire students, empower learning, and provide high-quality bilingual education in the Framingham Public Schools.

Massachusetts has several levels of teacher licensure (provisional, initial, professional). Framingham State University's Post-Baccalaureate Teaching Licensure Program prepares students for the Initial License with its coursework, field-based experiences, and supervised practicum. The Initial License lasts for five (5) years of teaching. The professional license may be earned by adding an appropriate master’s program.

Framingham Public Schools and Framingham State University are seeking to respond to the growing academic and social-emotional needs of students as we build our program. This program seeks simultaneously to protect the interests of FPS students while remaining in compliance with state regulations.

Post-Baccalaureate Teacher License (PBTL)

Eligibility:
Hold a bachelor’s degree by the start of the program year; Be a U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident; Agree to background checks per DESE

Duration:
One year

Time Commitment:
180 school days, plus 20 days in an FPS middle school summer program, for a total of 1,400 hours (7 hours per day) of service in FPS classrooms, plus 300 hours (7 Post-Baccalaureate classes) as a cohort at FSU
